How To Reduce Physical Stress Symptoms
Everyone deals with stress at different times in their lives and on varying levels. Day to day situations can cause us to feel stress on a small scale and long term problems such as with finances can create chronic stress. The body’s responses to stress are both physical and psychological.
When we experience stress our bodies naturally trigger a fight or flight response. This means that our adrenal glands secrete cortisol to prepare us for whatever action might be required on our part. When levels remain high for an extended period we don’t get a break and we become chronically stressed.
Because of this overabundance of cortisol it can be difficult to concentrate and sleep. With these problems, mood swings are likely to follow and anger is very common in highly stressed individuals.
Apart from these psychological symptoms, the body shows signs of stress as well. These come in the form of upset stomach, headaches and backache. Sometimes problems can occur such as hypertension, hemorrhoids and varicose veins.
Some of these physical stress symptoms are something most of us are familiar with. Who hasn’t felt butterflies in their stomach or stomach upset before giving a speech or performance in front of an audience? That is a physical stress symptom.
So what can be done to keep the stomachaches and headaches from making our lives miserable on top of our stressful lives? There are a number of things to be done and they have been proven effective time and again.
The first way you can relieve physical stress is by searching for the source of the stress. Often you know exactly what it is that is causing you problems, but sometimes, locating the source will require a bit more thought and consideration. Once you’ve located the problem, see what can be done to change the situation. If you don’t like a co-worker ask to be moved to a different area. If you are stressed about finances look at ways you can decrease your expenses or increase your income.
If you are unable to remove the source of the stress, and even if you can, lifestyle changes can have a major impact on your ability to cope with stress and can greatly reduce the physical stress symptoms you experience.
It sounds simplistic to say that eating the right foods, getting exercise and taking adequate sleep will relieve your stress. These measures might not completely free you of stress, but it is a fact that they are very helpful in reducing the symptoms you experience.
By eating healthy foods you give your body the nutrients it needs to meet the demands you place on it. Exercise is the perfect way to use up adrenaline from stress and it also releases endorphins that make you feel good, giving you a more positive outlook on life. A sufficient amount of sleep helps you wake up ready to face the day ahead despite any difficulties you may experience.
