Stress Reduction

Some people are worriers. There is no situation in which they can’t find something to stress about. These people are known by their friends and family to be worry-warts. Other people take everything with a grain of salt. They are so easy going; it’s as if nothing can rile them up. Most of us, however, fall somewhere in between.

This means that each of us experiences stressful situations and deal with those stressors in a more or less healthy way, but when the stress level is high, it’s hard for any of us to deal perfectly with our body’s response to the stress. We may lose our temper, get upset stomach or headaches or have a hard time concentrating or completing tasks.

Because every one of us has stress in our life, often in a great amount or high levels, it’s important for us to learn stress reduction methods to help us make the most of our situations without letting the stress take over our lives. Modern lifestyles are demanding and make it difficult for us to have periods of relaxation that our bodies need.

There are a few keys to stress reduction that can make it much easier to deal with the stress you experience and keep on top of your life, instead of being overrun by the stress.

Take Time To Relax
In today’s fast paced society, it’s easy to go, go, go all day every day and fall into bed at night exhausted. This is no good. In order to deal well with stress, you need to make time to relax. Set aside time for reading, going for a leisurely walk, take a hot bath or enjoy some down time with friends.

Keep Healthy
Exercise is the best type of stress reduction there is. You can get out pent up energy and frustration while strengthening your body, increasing your stamina and flooding yourself with endorphins. Also, make sure you get enough sleep at night. Your body cannot function properly on low levels of sleep. Eating healthy foods will also help give your body what it needs to function optimally and best cope with a stressful lifestyle.

Remove Stressors
Take a look at what causes you stress and see what you can do to change it. If finances are the problem, see what you can do to reduce spending or increase your income. If you are unhappy in your job, look for a new one. If your home life is stressful make small changes to reduce stress there.

Instead of just living with the stress you experience every day, see what you can do to reduce it. This way you avoid the physical and psychological symptoms of stress that make your life even more unpleasant. By following the suggestions above for stress reduction you will be on your way to a healthier, happier life.
